I think the way the assembly was formatted and the way the information was presented in a way does represent the way my generation views politics. I am not saying that it represent everybody, but it does represent so many people in my age group. The presentation was done in a joking manner. The students in the presentation make the political issues more of a joke. I think the reason they did this was because people in my generation do not know much about politics, so presenting the information very informally is the only way to make a connection with the audience (people in my generation). People in my generation feel politics are a waste of time. They just do not care about what is going on in the world when it has to do with politics. The reason they feel like this is because now people in my generation are much more concerned with other issues in their own personal life. People in my generation should feel more strongly about politics because WE ARE THE FUTURE. My generation feels they do not need to care about politics because they are still young. From being in this class and talking about politics it has sparked an interest for me. Until now, I was not aware of anything going on my country because I was never informed. I think the reason my generation has such a lack of interest in politics is because they are not informed and therefore not discussing with others.
The assembly had some good information. They kind of made a joke out of it because most kids our age don’t really follow politics and consider it a joke because “it doesn’t effect them.” That isn’t true though. This election effects everyone. The majority of our generation don’t like to follow the politics because most of us can’t vote yet. The decisions our next president makes could either make our country a better place to be in or make our economy worse. The tax bills and the abortion and gay marriage rights effect people of all ages. I think most of our generation feels like they have better things to do then to stay home and watch a debate.
The most useful information was learning about all the propositions. I think they did a good job explaining what the props are and the issues like the pro’s and con’s. They put the propositions in very simple terms that was easy to understand.
I wish the election assembly was more formative and serious. The presenters should have been more neutral in informing the students on the very important propositions and on the presidential candidates/senate candidates and propositions.
I personally strongly, STRONGLY, do not support prop 4 and 8 and I wished they emphasized more on these two propositions instead of making jokes and rapping. The assembly was honestly an accurate view of how our generation views politics, but not for me personally.
Many people were moved by the presenters rapping about the importance of voting rather than on the information we need to have good decisions for our voting. Ultimately, the students in the assembly I believed were motivated to vote, but not for voting on the candidates and propositions they should vote for or against.
Furthermore, our generation does not care for politics, an important matter that affects our daily lives, because our generations' role models who dramatically affect our generation have done very little to stress the importance in taking part in politics.
Lastly, this assembly is late on telling its audience to vote because the registration for the parties is over already, so unregistered students can only listen and think about voting in 2012.
The Election Assembly was an okay view of my generations view of the political world. Aaron Fisher I know you are going to disagree with me on this, but I really DON'T care. I feel that some of the groups presenting were trying to show how some of the people in our generation see it as a joke and since we are unable to vote yet many of us may not care. The assembly made it so that those who don't care about politics or the democratic process can see why its important to go and vote but, also that many laws depend on us voting in the elections.
This could have been better like when talking about the props they could have used examples of things that our generation cares about. For example the new driving age law says any one born after 1992 has to be 18 to get their drivers license. That is if it passes. Or make one up that would fit something that our generation would care about. This may have made the assembly a little more than which it was a waste of time because they made it seem like that voting was an important joke.
In my opinion no matter who we vote for the country may get better or may we all may be doomed to a worse 4 years than the 8 years we barely survived. If I were able to vote I would vote Obama 4 President and vote no on prop 8. There are going to be changes made after these elections, we may leave Iraq or we may get bombed.
I really enjoyed the assembly, I thought they created a good way to connect to a younger audience. They did raps and funny presentations to help me understand the important things in this election. I enjoyed it because I got to take sides on political issues and got more information about candidates that don’t get as much air time. I am really amazed that some of the candidates views, but I’m also sure that it was bias and not all the arguments were shown. I think it’s a little like yellow journalism, exaggerating the truth and not showing all sides of candidates platform and views. I have no voice in this election at all, people say ‘oh, well you can talk to your parents’ but I can’t. Both my parents know exactly what they are voting for and it might be from just from the commercials. They both think I’m a child and I don’t know what I’m talking about. My brother is so frustrating to me because he is completely closed off to prop 8 and doesn't want to do research on it. He believes the commercials and doesn’t have an open mind. In all I think that it was an OK performance, but the reason why they showed it to Jr.s Sophomores and Freshman doesn't make much sense, because no matter what you say a 50 year old dad isn't going to listen to his 14 year old son. It should have been for seniors or a public play for older voters, maybe at a community college.
I think the assembly was accurate on the facts they mentioned in the assembly but the problem was that every one just does not care about the election as much as they should. I think that assembly was a waste of time because it just provided us with a bunch of facts about the election and about the props. They should have influenced us more to want to actually care who are president is going to be and what he or she is going to do for the United States. I think the reason this assembly was a waste of time because no matter how much they try to influence us it is going to be pointless because every one who was watching that assembly can't even have a part in this election because they are too young to vote and they just have better things to be doing then to be worrying about an election they won't even have a say in who is going to be our president. I think for future references, they should try to get the people watching the assembly involved so they can say what they believe on the election so they can get their points across with other people. Maybe then the people who had things to say about the election would actually care about who is going to be running our country!!!!!
I don't think the election assembly was accurate for how people my age view politics. They just gave textbook definitions of each of the propositions and many us know more about them than they put across. There is so much information out there between the TV and internet, so we find out a lot and we all have many opinions about political subjects. With all this information out there, we know a lot more about everything than people in the past did, therefore we have more to say about it and more opinions. My friends and I are not as interested in politics as some people, but discussions will still come up from time to time about them. From the assembly, I was expecting to learn even more about all the props and the political views of both parties, but that did not happen. For people that had no clue about anything, it was probably interesting to them (like all the outfits hahahha) but I think they rushed over all the topics, especially prop 8!
I don’t think they went into as much detail as they should have, because they probably didn’t want the audience to be bored. Instead they made up raps which were really funny, but that did not help us to understand it anymore than when we went in in the first place. I feel like they could have made it interesting and informative at the same time, and they went more for the interesting side. We will soon be voting, so it’s important to know about everything before hand so we know how we are going to vote in the future. If we don’t care now, we won’t care in the future and the future is in our hands.
I think that the election assembly was a waist of time. I believe that the only reason why they did it was to inform the kids who don't know what they are about what is really going on. To be honest, i bet all those kids just found there information and copy and pasted. Its not like they did a research project about each proposition. I mean in a way it taught the kids something about what they were writing but overall there teenagers and they could give as crap about who gets elected for president. Ya some people might know a lot about politics but in general most teenagers are not. Most people have better things to do then worry bout politics. So i believe that this assembly did nothing. It would have been better if we were in college because ya then we will have an active intrest in our society and president, but for teenagers to learn about it now, it comes through one ear and goes out the other. i mean why should they inform us about this information if we can't vote. We cant change anybodys vote buy trying to persuade them. its just not going to happen.they believe what they want, and you think there going to listen to a stupid 16 year old. NO WAY! MR SHIPLEY I THINK U INSANE
The assembly really opened my eyes and i realized i am not the only one that does not understand or really care about these upcoming elections. The way they presented the debates, candidates and props were all a huge joke. It was if it were some bad made show that was filming for youtube. I didn't understand were they were going with any of it. There was rapping and laughing. So sure thats a school assembly. But, i believe that there is a reason why no one seems to fully care about these elections and that is because of our past history. Almost every president has become a disappointment to our Nation. There were all the lies, scandals, and also the wars. Now with the recession going on we do not have time to think about the future. We put all of our time and effort into the present because yet again, a president has disappointed us, and we have to pay for it. Also the fact that i cant change my parents opinion or anyone else's in that matter. i just do not see the point because i can't even vote. But i think people are scared. We are scared that if we choose yet another president he might do the same thing. We try to determine who is more qualified to run this massive Country but the answer is that really no one is.
I feel like the election assembly was interesting. I think it was a pretty accurate view of the way our generation views politics because it demonstrated how the importance of politics is different in everyones eyes. Some people in our generation have a very strong view and opinion on politics, and many could care less.
I think the assembly did a good job at putting the propositions in simple terms and making it more understandable for people our age. I think people make fun of politics and the whole idea of it because they don't care and think it won't affect them. I'm sure people our age know that it will affect them at some point in their life, but they don't care because they think that it's a problem that they'll deal with when they come across it.
A reason other then the simple fact that our generation doesn't care, could be the fact that everyone does their own things and has different priorities. Some look at politics as the most important thing in their lives, and some feel like it's all about who runs the country. I think most people don't care because of the simple fact that they can't vote. Why would they sit there and take the time to come up with arguments against decisions that they don't have a say in.
Overall I think the assembly did a good job on demonstrating our generations views because it showed how some people care, and many people don't.
From what I learned in the assembly, I think it was part inaccurate and part accurate because the person who represented Obama had no similarities to him. His tone and his performance was actually not even close. Some guys like the deep tone was prefect for one of the candidates or senate senate..i forgot. On the prepositions, the first 3 and last 3 were very interesting, funny, and detailed. If that was a debate, I would vote for Nader or McKinney...I forgot; because he had a great performance and well supported his ideas with his tone. I'm not a big fan of politics because I just like learning disasters and other events besides government and politics. The reason why people like politics that I think is they like talking about current issues.
Obama-will help Jumpstart with $50 million; prevent millions loosing their homes; withdrawal from Iraq
McKinney- suggested to leave oil in the soil; immediate withdrawl from Iraq and around the world; cut funding for wars in the Middle East
Nader-wanted a new policy for our oil, coal, and atomic power
McCain-believes of expanding in stem cells; increase our health care; he also wanted to replace coal and oil with alternative fuels
Barr-believes to ban partial-birth abortions; ban gay marriages; also agrees on making federal death penalty appeals even harder
Keyes-oppose abortion; believes in school sponsoring prayer; wanted to improve qualities of our schools
I do not think that the presentation is an accurate representation of the way our generation views politics, because I do not think that everybody in our generation views politics the same way. There are always going to be people that love everything about politics, and love to debate, and there are always going to be people who just try their best to stay out of it. The assembly made politics seem much more simple and kind of “dumbed it down”. I think that this was simply an attempt to make it more interesting and to keep the audience’s attention. Also, I do not understand how the elder generations keep judging our generation when we are so young. At this point many, of course not all, of these issues are not as pertinent to people our age as they are to older people. This is to say that we will probably care more about all this when it starts making a bigger impact on our lives. So, I cannot answer the question whether people in the elder generations really truly cared about politics when they were our age, or whether it is just an acquired taste. However, my guess is that they did not.
For the most part, the assembly was not informational to me. I learned a few things that i did not know on the propositions. For example before the assembly the only propositions that i knew about were prop. 2, prop. 4, and prop. 8, however now i know the general idea about prop. 1, prop. 3, prop. 6, and prop. 9.
When Mr. Shipley told us that we were going to go to the assembly i was excited because i do not know a lot about McCain or Obama. I thought that it was going to be more focused on the current presidential candidates ideas. So for me, the assembly was kinda a let down in the end.
I personally do not view politics as a joke. Especially the current issues , because the issues now are the ones that are going to affect us in the future. However i do think that the majority of our generation views politics as a joke. Only because our generation is not able to do anything about this election. We are not allowed the right to vote at our age, so there really is nothing that we are able to do to have a voice in this election. We are chosen our future for us, and that is why i think that our generation views politics as a vote.
Over all the assembly was amusing but was this the accurate way our generation sees politics? I believe it was. The youth in this generations do not believe that politics will affect them but they are one of the most important aspects in life. They can change the way you live now. I did gather information from the assembly but mostly on the propositions. They did not give enough information on who is going to lead our country and who will represent us as a state and as a country as a whole.
It was hard to understand what they were trying to get at when they make jokes about it and try to be funny. I do understand that they were trying to get people interested but they are other ways to get attention while giving out accurate information at the same time.
We do not care about politics as much as we use to because as generations grow older generations like ours think it is a joke. Also with how much hate people have for the president leading our country now, people think he is a joke and do not want to even participate in something he can mend. Even in the past the presidents and others in politics have disappointed us by they way they ran things. People are just starting to lose faith in the government and politic system in U.S. today.
For our age, people think we should not be interested in politics because our voice does not count but you have the ability to change someone's opinion. We have more interests in boys, shopping, and things that can make us look better or have people like us but politics will affect everyone. Everyone that can comprehend politics should be involved.
For me, politics interests me. I love that I can speak my opinion and debate with others about different topics. I hope this election coming up will not just be about who is the cooler president or who everyone likes. I hope people will vote on what they believe.
It is an interesting notion to combine time and change but it has become even more intriguing today when it applies to my generation in particular. Andy Warhol once stated “they always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself,” and the depressing nature is that my generation finds this untrue. Looking directly at my generation, call us the Myspace generation, the starbucks generation, the ipod generation, the cell phone generation, whatever materialistic you apply to my generation seems to hold the same truth... we don’t care. With time comes prosperity, and with that consideration you would usually conclude that the influx of knowledge would achieve great achievements, but exactly the opposite has occurred. Perhaps it is the lack of fear, lack of threat of nuclear war, lack of purpose. I strongly believe that it is not my generation that does not care, but does not care because they never saw a reason to care. You can not blame someone who doesn’t know. The assembly was a tad of mocking to me personally, but I am far from being the stereotype in my generation. Give people a reason, such as prices rising, and they will speak.
So apparently my blog was not posted, so I am going to talk about this once more. The assembly was a great representation of today's society of young teenagers. The teenagers in today's society overall take little interest in all the propositions and even election. They have other things to do and less worrying now. It will hit us as soon as we are 18 because we will be able to vote and hopefully we will all be in college. With that said, the assembly covered all the propositions, but not in too clear of a way. They stated all the propositions and a brief summary on all of them. Now I personally do not know much any any of the propositions except for one and eight. The other ones I havew not heard before and I was hoping to get a better understanding on what California is trying to achieve by these propositions. with that said, I still learned every proposition and I ended up understanding everything at the end anyway. These propositions will create a great change in California's future because unlike any other proposition I can remember, I have never heard of any other state trying to build a bullet train. I have personally rode on a bullet train, so I know exactly how useful it can be. These propositions can greatly impact the proggression of cicilization or more, California.
