Well at first i am not a big fan of politics. my case would be...umm...Obama because he is a strong young black man that will change this world or country into a stronger place and live free without dealing with a lot of problems. McCain probably knows more information than Obama, but the problem is that he is the seventies (toooooo old). I think he was in the military once and he is more a type of person knowing how to deal with troops in countries. Soon, think his tongue or face with fall off because he is close to death. Well, Obama is like a strong young person like President Kennedy or Jackson which will support a lot of things. Choosing either nomineee, they will both make history, actually 4 histories, if McCain wins, he will be the oldest president ever in U.S. and Palin would be the first female vice president. If Obama wins, he will be the first black president of U.S. If you vote not to make history of people, you would vote independent, if they win, they would be their first time winning an election to serve as president. That will become history also.

Once again, I am NOT A BIG FAN OF POLITICS!!

So truely I do not believe that neither McCain nor Obama should be president. But if I were to choose one as a president, I would choose Obama. He would represent America much better and hopefully raise us from the fat debt we are in. McCain is nice and all, but he is just a second George Bush. I think that we are passed trying new ideas with presidents because we are already in a great hole as a country. So i would hope that Obama would do a good job as president because this may be our country's last shot to get back on top. So a strong young man with a great smile is always gonna be on top of an old grumpy man. So like in the crisis blog, many people go to strong leaders for support. I would expect Obama to be the person people would go to for support. He will hopefully be the one president we have in this country. Also my last two points about McCain is he is old and has many problems ahead of him such as diseases and cancers that may lead to death. Now I am not trying to be mean or anything, but if that happens by any chance, we are faced with a female president that has no idea what she is doing. Why would McCain say that Obama has no experience and then choose this complete random lady from Alaska? So i based this on all my opinions and a little bit of watching CNN and the Saturday Night Live on Thursday. That was pretty funny they made fun of the debate. So my conclusion is to choose Obama. Thank you for reading.

Politics are not my forte, but my vote (if I were of voting age) would have to be Obama.

I have read on the politics he supports and I personally agree with many of them. I support equal rights for homosexuals and he supports equal rights for gay couples and voted NO on a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. I'm also an environmentalist and Obama has voted YES on many bills supporting alternative sources of energy to reduce dependency on foreign oil and wishes that 20% of the nations power supply come from renewable sources. Also, he has voted YES on tax cuts for working families, not corporations, and increasing the minimum wage to $7.25.

I will admit McCain has had far more experience than Obama in many different areas of expertise, but I doubt McCain's mental stability due to his age and that he voted 90% with President Bush. The last thing this company needs is another Bush in the White House. Plus, McCain doesn't really have a platform besides his "Maverick" catchphrase. His VP Sarah Palin I view was just a political ploy to attract female voters. She is not nearly experienced enough, has extreme belief in the bible which she may put above politics, and she seems, and is not qualified to hold such a high office for such a short time as governor. I will say in her defense, she is not nearly as incompetent as Tina Fey portrays her on SNL. (As entertaining as it is to watch)

The choice between Obama and McCain is very easy for many people based on party or religion or even ignorance. But I needed convincing. McCain is a very ignorant old man and he shows that constantly, I mean yes, it has to be difficult to have Bushes’ shadow fallowing you. But McCain has a serious problem besides his VP, during all the debates he doesn’t answer questions, he moves around them and brings up irrelevant pieces of information like his “close and personal” friends. And Palin is a complete mess. She is stupid and ignorant. If McCain dies during his presidency (which is extremely likely since he has had cancer so many times..) we will be stuck with Sarah Palin. That thought alone is so horrifying considering the fact that she kills endangered animals, is dumb beyond all reason and wants to abolish all women’s choices regarding pregnancy. Obama was raised Muslim when he was raised in Hawaii, but when he moved to the main land and got married he became a Christian. His VP is highly educated and viewed as experienced but even at the debate he was a spokesperson for Obama more than for himself. I think Obama will be a great leader because he wants change and he knows what is good for our country. I think he will be an amazing leader and will make many good changes for the better

The choice between Obama and McCain for president of the United States is very easy for me. I’d choose Obama for president based on the historical fact that in eight years under a republic president (Bush) the country has become the laughing stalk of the world. We went into Iraq and started an illegal war. A war that we may never see the end of and it was all based on false information that Iraq had or was trying to produce WMD (Weapons of mass destruction). So I would choose Obama for change and for all of the issues that he supports. I’m tired of living in fear that so terrorist will blow up something that I’m on because our president pissed him off. With Obama I hope he can improve our relations with other countries and maybe then we can leave Iraq for good.

Here is a site that shows the issues that all of the canidates support and don't.

My choice for the next president would definitely be Obama. I’ve watched both of them speak, and even though I sometimes do not know what they are talking about, I find it a lot easier to listen to Obama and believe that he will be the great change this country needs. If I hadn’t supported Obama before, watching the debates the other night made me support him even more. When he spoke, he addressed everyone, whether it was the people sitting in that room, or the people watching at home. He made strong cases about what he believed would help our country and didn’t back down on what he was saying. While McCain was answering the questions he was asked, you could see Obama in the back and he was really paying attention to what McCain had to say, even though he didn’t usually agree with it. McCain hardly looked at Obama. At one point McCain tried to call Obama out on something he had said, but Obama went up and corrected what McCain had said and cleared up what could have been a misunderstanding. After that McCain went up again to say that Obama was wrong even though Obama had just stated again what he was trying to say proving McCain wrong. Also, when McCain called him “that one” I thought that was so rude on so many levels. It was like he was talking down to Obama, and not even treating him like a person. And this was with Obama sitting right there! I also don’t like how McCain is trying to make people think Obama is a terrorist because his middle name is Hussein. Nobody can help what their name is, so trying to turn people off of voting for him because of his name is really low and wrong.
Here’s a clip to show how strong Obama is and also where McCain calls him ‘that one”:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJlnwVCA2eY

Also, McCain picking Sarah Palin for his vice president running mate scares me. While watching her interviews and debates, I feel like she only wants to talk about the things she knows, not what is being asked. During the vice presidential debates, she didn’t even answer a few questions, but changed them to what she wanted to talk about! Some of her comments earlier in the campaign about seeing Russia from her house or whatever she said, whether she was kidding or not, was just so stupid! What’s really scary is she could more probably then not be the next president, because McCain is very old and could possibly die. In my opinion she doesn’t have enough experience to be the president. With Obama picking Biden I think was a great decision. Biden has experience and he knows his stuff. I also like how Obama said that Biden would help on every decision, and not just be the person to become president if something should happen to Obama.

Although both Obama and McCain bring different qualities and strengths as candidates for president, I believe Obama has the potential to be the better president. He not only has better understanding of the issues, but more importantly, has a sensible plan to address them. He understands that the most important issues that the future president of he United States are, first and foremost, the economy, then the war in Iraq and the degrading of our environment.

This election is very important because we need someone who can guide us through this extraordinarily difficult economic time. I have felt that the past nine years of Republican deregulation was a huge mistake. I think we need someone who can turn this around. Obama, with his plan to bring more income to the middle-class, is more likely than McCain to help the economy recover. I believe that McCain, as much as he tries to distance himself from the present administration, will just continue the failed economic policies of President Bush. Obama will give us a new beginning!

Besides being better for the economy, I think Obama will pull us out of the war in Iraq. We are
spending billions of dollars in Iraq, to what end? Bin Laden is still alive and Americans are dying every day. So what are we doing there? Obama stated that he would withdraw from Iraq over a 16 month period. In my opinion that is the best course. Everyday that we are in Iraq more people will die and we will be in debit. Let’s put the money we are wasting in Iraq to better purpose at home, helping Americans deal with the problems here.

Another one of those problems is the environment. I am a huge environmentalist and I strongly believe we need someone who really cares about the environment! Obama’s plan to, “Ensure that ten percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012, and 25 percent by 2025,” is a good plan. We need to reuse and recycle more. Obama pledge to help us do this is a step in the right direction. Obama also includes in his environmental policy a plan to reduce green house gas emissions. Global Warming is a reality and we need to do everything in our power to stop it. By promising to help the environment, Obama will also make things better our economy by creating “green” jobs. Obama also wants to get more hybrid vehicles on the road. I think this an important step in ending our dependence on foreign oil imports. We need to
start finding other ways to fuel our cars and heat our homes. Our dependence on oil, foreign or not, is not a good thing because oil is a limited resource. Obama says he will explore using more unlimited resources like wind and sun (solar). Using up all our natural resources or dying for oil is not the solution!

I wish the best to both candidates, but I will countinue to support to Obama.. We need someone who can help us get out of Iraq. Obama has a reasonable plan. We need someone to help us reverse this economic downturn. Obama has shown us a way. We need someone who is responsive to environmental issues. Obama has continually demonstrated that he cares about our environment. I believe we need a strong leader to help us get through these hard times. Obama is that leader. It’s time for a change. I firmly believe Obama will bring that change

Before anyone reads this, I would like that person to know that I hate politics. I do not dislike it; I hate it. Everyone thinks they have the right answer, and everyone thinks that their “opinion” is superior to everyone else’s. No matter where you look or who you talk to, the information is skewed one way or another.

Even though we are still young as a country, we have succeeded many other older nations in economics, government issues, and military related conflicts. In the past two years, however, unemployment has shot up substantially, prices of goods and energy have risen, and gas prices have been the main topic of discussion by a long shot.

In this presidential election, I think Obama will win. Everything shown in the charts above has happened under Bush. People associate all of these bad charts and graphs with republicans. Personally, I am torn between both candidates. Barack Obama has good charisma, can relate to the population and, more importantly, is not associated with our government’s decisions in the past couple years. John McCain has far more experience economically and militarily, and after being held captive, knows what it is really like to be in danger. Who do I think will win? Barack Obama. Who do I think would be a better leader for our country? John McCain. I think both men would bring our country out of this slump. Everyone knows the saying: Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he eats for life. I see Obama’s plans more as giving a man a fish, by giving everyone Medicare, Social Security, and tax cuts. McCain shows his plans as more of fixing the economy directly, rather than giving money to the people to fix the economy.

I would choose Obama over McCain for many reasons. One being age. McCain is in his 70's which makes him have a different perception on the country in this day and age. Obama on the other hand is young, and even though many say he's inexperienced, I feel that he will be a better president for this country.

Also, I've watched both of them speak and I feel like Obama has a better idea of what he wants to do to help fix the country and strengthen the economy.

McCain's age is also a problem because of the person he has chosen as his vice presidential candidate. If McCain happens to die during his term Palin would become president, and it doesn't seem like she's ready for a position like that.

To be honest here, politics are not my specialty, but from the knowledge I have gained I want Obama to win president. For starters, as an obvious thing, I am worried McCain will die soon and Palin will take over as our president. I think in the future Palin will have the ability to be president, but I do not think she does now. Just from what I have seen and heard, I think McCain is a lot more concerned with just his campaign, where Obama is concerned about our country and the changes that need to be made NOW. Obama is that strong leader that people want to follow. He has a great understanding of the debt we are in and he wants us out of it. Most new presidents go into their presidency with all these great new ideas and in reality, few of them work, but I feel Obama is such determined man and he will be the one who will help shape up our economy. Another reason that I am drawn towards Obama is that he has voted YES on many bills like environmental bills and not banning gay marriage that I strongly agree with.

The last main point that made me strongly side with Obama are his opinions on abortion. You can go to this site to find out more about how Obama feels on the abortion and unwanted pregnancy issues. I am pretty sure many people who read it will agree with what Obama has to say about this huge issue in our society. http://www.ontheissues.org/Social/Barack_Obama_Abortion.htm. On this abortion and pregnancy issue, I feel it is so important because it is possible for someone around me to become impregnated as a teen and her rights are important. Something like that could happen and Obama’s views on the issue ensure the woman’s rights about whether she wants to keep or abort the baby.

I believe that Barack Obama will be a better President. His plans for running the country sound a lot more like moving the country forward than John McCain's plans. Clearly the republican way of running the government and the economy have failed. The deregulation had helped the economy for a short time but in the long run it has ruined it. Obama though has plans to regulate the economy and fix the the government. On foreign issues I think Obama's plan will finally end the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. His plan is to get most troops out of Iraq and send them to Afghanistan where the situation is worse and where Al-Qaida is most likely hiding. Overall Obama's views are going to be much better for all of America than McCain who doesn't really have any views.

Her's a page I found on Obama's economic views

I don't really like getting into politics too much, so I had to do some research before I could make up my mind. I've come to the conclusion that there are probably better tickets for both of the parties. Obama lacks experience but is a great speaker, and McCain is pretty old but has plenty of experience. If either of the candidates die in office, which is possible, then Joe Biden, who seems like a solid VP, but he is kind of old too, or Sarah Palin, who really lacks experience now but could be pretty popular at a later date, would have to step in. At this point, I think that the winner will be Obama because he is a really good speaker with a lot of momentum, and is currently winning by a fair margin in the polls. If Obama doesn't win, he will definitely be back in 2012, and if McCain doesn't win, Palin will probably be a player in 2012 too. I honestly couldn't tell you who I like more, because they both seem like good candidates, but I will be very interested to see who wins this historical election.

It is kind of hard for me to choose one candidate that I want to win for president because I don't really know much about either candidate. I think this is one subject where herd mentality is used a lot. People tend to follow the popular vote and listen to celebrities and superiors for their opinion. But I do believe Barack Obama is a bester choice as president.

One reason that many people think is important is McCain's age. If elected he would be the oldest president. This concerns people because he has a higher risk of dying and if he does then Palin would become president. I don't believe she has enough experience and I also believe that this country is not ready for a woman president. It is too much of a leap.

One reason that makes it hard to choose is because people tend to believe McCain has a lot of experience and knows a lot more than Obama. McCain was in a war and he did fight for this country. But I think Obama's youth would allow him to achieve much more for this country. He seems like a very determined man who will get things done in a better fashion than McCain could.

Other reasons that I prefer Obama is because McCain might stay with some policies that Bush is using now like the current Administration plan for the Iraq war. I do not believe that is the right thing to do because the country is not supporting Bush’s ideas now so why would they ever? Also, as of now, nothing is being done about the conflicts in Africa. I believe that the U.S. needs to desperately help the people in Africa because it is devastating to see that nothing is being done to save these people who are dying and are living in extreme poverty. The last thing that I believe is a huge deal for women in the United States is abortion. I completely side with Obama, that woman should be able to choose (with some limits concerning the time they want the abortion).

One thing that concerns me if Obama does become president is his race. There are some racist people in this world and seeing an African American as president running their country would not make them happy. Does anyone else wonder about that? Will he be safe as president? (Let’s hope so!)

This was a REALLY great site that allows you to compare the two candidates:

I believe that Obama will make a better president because he cares more about our country and about all people, no matter what class. He wants to end the war in Iraq. Obama's health care plan is far better than McCain's because he will cover everybody! The government will cover you if you can't pay, even if you have a prexisting illness. To contrast, McCain states that people should find their own health care insurance. He will not pay for the poor sick people who do not have enough money even though they are the ones that need the most help. Obama also has a better energy program such as alternate fuels besides oil. As most can agree with, Jo Biden would be a much stronger and experienced Vice President than Sarah Palin. Obama also wants a tax cut for 95% of working families. Obama believes in having diplomatic relationships with our enemies while McCain is not interested in speaking with our enemies.

McCain is unsiuted for presidency for many reasons, one of them being that he has lots of the same views as Bush. McCain wants to stay in Iraq for unlimited amounts of time. Sarah Palin is for many of the issues that I am against. She is against abortion. I believe that women should be able to choose if they want to have a child or not. Palin is against gay rights and she believes in creative intelligence. To conclude, I believe that our country strongly needs Barack Obama to be the next President of the United States because his ideas and views will better benifit the people in our society.

Many people in the class that have posted their comments have been saying that polotics isn't there favorite thing in the world.... but it is what it is and it's pointless to complain about. I have watched many of the debates and in my opinion i would have to vote for Senator McCain. One of the reasons why i am for McCain is because i greatly dislike the increased gas prices as most do. He is willing to drill off shore which in turn should decrease the oil prices. I also believe that Obama has much less experience than McCain. This in my opinion is a is a main reason why McCain is better fit for the job. Do we really want an unexperienced president right now in these horrible times?

I believe John McCain and Barack Obama are both equally good candidates. Truthfully, I don't know who I prefer to be president yet. Like Oliver said, I would be very interested in who wins the election. But, what I can give you are where both candidates stand on some major issues.

McCain:
-Abortion
Wants to overturn Roe v. Wade; supports state aid to boost adoption.
-Economy
Would get rid of the Alternative Minimum tax, keep Bush tax cuts and reform social security.
-Environment
Supports a global coalition, including China and India, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
-Gun Control
Sponsored legislation requiring background checks at gun shows, voted against assault weapons ban extension, opposes requiring trigger locks for handguns.
-Health Care
Opposes universal coverage. Supports health care tax dividends for low-income Americans.
-Immigration
Supports amnesty for illegal immigrants and says undocumented workers should be put on the path to U.S. citizenship.
-War In Iraq
Voted for 2003 invasion and says U.S. troops should remain until Iraq can defend itself.

Obama:
-Abortion
Supports a woman's right to choose.
-Economy
Wants to help middle-class families by reforming health care and education and invest in scientific research to boost productivity and growth.
-Environment
Wants an 80% cut in U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and would invest $150 billion over 10 years to clean energy.
-Gun Control
Supports extending the assault weapons ban and limiting gun sales to one per month.
-Health Care
Supports universal coverage for those who don't have employer-provided health care and
who don't qualify for other federal programs, beginning with subsidized coverage for all children.
-Immigration
Supports increased border security and enforcement and a legal path to citizenship for some illegal immigrants. Voted for the construction of a fence on the U.S.-Mexico border.
-War In Iraq
Opposed the war from the outset. Supports phased withdrawal of troops and a UN convention to achieve national reconciliation.

In conclusion, I agree and disagree with some things that they had to say about these major issues. In addition, I'm very excited for the election to see who wins!

I believe Obama should win over Mr. McCain. I think Obama is what we need and is a good change from the current presidential status. In my opinion the McCain/Palin ticket is way too much like the Bush system which obviously has not worked in any of the eight years of enrollment. The McCain campaign will only lead us into more trouble and further increase our debt in and outside of the nation. Also I don't want higher taxes for the middle class as I think it is the wrong class that should be taxed with our current standings. That is why I support Obama for president.

I like many others am not a huge fan of politics. I like Obama's policies on the economy. His energetic speaking style will captivate audiences and cause many American's to become interested in doing what is necessary to help the nation. This is evident from when Theodore Roosevelt was president. He did not have very good speaking skills but spoke with much energy. This caused the public to like him. I do not like McCain much because he doesn't make his policies well known. I also do not like his vice presidential pick. Normally, this would not matter all that much to me, but because of his age there is a good chance Palin might become President.

I believe neither are good candidates.

I used to think of Obama as the lesser of two evils, but after watching the presidential debates I have switched over to McCain.
I still am iffy about both candidates, but now I think McCain can bring what this country needs.

Under different circumstances, I would definitely vote Obama. His ideas are wonderful. I support everything he does. However, I feel as though he has no idea how to get us out of the recession. And to me, that is the number one issue right now. Nothing else can be solved if the country falls into a bigger financial crisis. I think Obama knows what the country needs in terms of civil rights. However, he needs more than excellent ideas to be a good president. He needs to know how to make his ideas a reality. I feel that he lacks the knowledge on how to do things. Sometimes when I listen to him speak, I feel as though he doesn't know what he's talking about. It seems to me that he doesn't know how to do anything he proposes that he can.
In addition, his promises seem empty. He promises so much that its impossible to do all of them. His proposals require money, and he doesn't provide a clear solution for getting out of the recession. His solutions are "cutting unnecessary government spending". He provides no examples. How far can cutting extra spending get us? It most certainly won't even get us out of the recession, let alone provide money for all of his ideas. At this point, it seems as though if he wants to go through with any of his ideas he'll put us in a deeper financial crisis.

I don't support Republicans in general. I don't like McCain and Palin's issues regarding many things, primarily same-sex marriage and abortion. However, McCain provides a sound way out of the recession and a new source of energy. His alternate energy sources will benefit us in the long run, and may help provide some relief in the war.
McCain realizes that the war can not end as of right now.
If we pull out of Iraq, a corrupt Middle-Eastern government will take over the weakened country. They will create a large power in the Middle East, threatening US and Israel, the only democratic government in the Middle East. Another war will most definitely occur if we pull out now. The only difference will be that the Terrorists will have gained power and the Middle Easterners will be a bigger threat.

For these reasons, I support McCain. I support what Obama stands for, but I realize it is not possible as of right now. I hope one day Obama will re-run, when we are not war stricken and in massive debt.

Ok so Obama or McCain..Well to be completely honest with you i dont really follow politics and i hate all the scuttlebut about who is going to win president.

In all likelyhood i want obama to win presidency because i believe he will fit our nation and help or country prosper in many ways. My only doubt about obama is that his family is Muslim so people will hold that against him. i believe that later in his term he will get assianated due to his ethnicity.

Now McCain on the other hand is not a bad guy but i believe that he is going to have a hard attack during his term because he is to old to serve as a president. And Sara Palin i dont feel comfortable enough to have her become president. i dont think she is ready right now to take on that challenge. Sorry Mikela if i upset you about Sara Palin, but its true. Also with McCain there is talk that if he becomes president he will reinstitute the draft, which would not be good. Our army is volunteer now an that would be great if we keep it like that.

Now i probably seem very negative about this election because first of all i hate politics so much. I want our nation to be strong and never have to worry about anything. So i think that Obama is the right choice to serve as a president of the United States. i think his courage, bravery and intelligence will be a asset to how well our nation can prosper and respond in the future years.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/08/opinion/08brooks.html

i think this is a great source of imformation that could be used to help someone that is not so sure about politics understand what is going on.

This is an extremely interesting and controversial topic

I have read over all the blogs posted before mine and I observed that only 1 person would vote for McCain. The rest of my fellow students are undecided or Obama supporters.

I think this poll is very skewed because we live in California, home of the democrat. This was my non bias observation.

However in my opnion, the choice between Obama and McCain is not even a choice.
Obama must win the battle for presidency.
I say this because I am very liberal and my views are that of an extreme democrat.

I want nothing to do with John McCain, who in unclear on many of his positions and Sarah Palin, who does not know what she is even supporting. If the fate of our country is ever placed in the hands of these two individuals I fear our future.

If I had to pick a president in the upcoming election, I would pick Barrack Obama. He is not as experienced than McCain but has a sense of what is going on. McCain is already old and might die soon and his choice of Palin as his vice president shakes his standing. Palin is from Alaska and is not prepared to be a vice president. To me, McCain picked Palin to get women votes but that did not work well because of her incompetence. During the vice president debate, she avoided all the answers and said obvious statements. Also it does not feel safe to be a republican right now with George Buth and the decisions that are being made. I disprove of the war and I side with Barrack Obama on it. I don’t want a total end of the war but we should withdraw slowly or find another alternative. The debt that George Bush accumulated is angering to me and is affecting the society that we live in. Also McCain and Palin resorted to changing the truth and pushing down Barack Obama. Obama has approved on many bills supporting alternative sources of energy to reduce dependency on foreign oil and wants 20% of the nations power supply come from renewable sources. Also, he wants to make life easier for the family. McCain has no platforms that are visible or certain besides being called a maverick, which was said by Palin during the debate. Overall Barack has motivated this country and shown characteristic that will bring change to our country and the whole country follows with him. Also Barack is ahead in the election and McCain is far behind which makes it really hard to catch back up.

In my personal view Obama is the better out of the two candidates. He is my favorite because of what he wants. change. We also need to talk to our enemies so that maybe, just maybe, we can get along with countries like Iran or Venezuela. They hate us, so it would be nice to have a president who can at least think to make peace with these countries. Nonetheless I understad that Obama doesn't have any military experience. A good idea would be putting McCain into the defense department, and never into the presidency. If he made presidency, he might die in office and we might have a seccesionist bumpkin in office and might let the seccesionists get away with things that might disrupt our country.

So let me first start by saying I don’t really follow politics too closely, but if I were of voting age I would probably vote for Obama.

First off, McCain is in his 70’s and it’s very likely he will die while in office, especially since he has had past cancer trouble, leaving us with Sarah Palin as president. Personally I don’t think she would be ready for that because she isn’t very experienced. Even though she’s governor of Alaska, and personally I feel that Alaska is so far from us it’s almost like its own little world to where she isn’t fully aware of what we’ve been going through economically. Some of the things that she says are just absolutely ridiculous! Also I somewhat view McCain as another Bush. I don’t really like that because if you look at all the things that have happened while Bush has been in office, it doesn’t make me want someone just like him as President.

I think Obama has some good ideas that could help our country in a good way. I support his views on abortion being as the woman should choose. I think Obama’s tax cuts would be helpful to the majority of the people living here in the U.S. I feel that Obama is a good speaker and when you listen to him he sounds like he knows exactly what he’s talking about and he has some great ideas. I think that during the debates Obama handles them very calmly even when McCain is trying to tear him down.

Hopefully whoever is elected president can help fix all of our countries problems.

I love politics. Everything about them so being able to blog about it is great! Good call Ship! For starters eventhough I have some doubts about how capable Obama is in running the country but he is definetly a better choice the McCain. Personally I would like to have a president last for his entire term but that's just me. The thought of McCain and Palin as a presidential duo frightens me. Neither of them have mentioned a full an complete side on various issues we are facing today. I don't appreciate how they avoid questions and continue to bash Obama, it's childish. For a man who is almost 80 you think he would act more mature. I would be more fond of Palin being the president than him.

One thing that I really like about Odama is his stance on alternative energy sources. I for one am all for other resources than oil, so Obama's desire to have the US become less dependent on oil is a factor that I really like. Another thing that draws me to Obama is that he seems like a honest and true person. I have been lucky enough to meet him in person and he has this stately presence about him. Also he has this political consistency about him, he has been very up front about his views and he hasn't made statement changes or anything. He is true to his ideas regardless on how the people of America feel about it.
It is kind of unfair to the next president because they are going to have to clean up this insane mess that we call our economy. But I belive that Obama will be a good choice to clean it up. The people that he has on his staff have proposed some good ideas. They are so good that even republicans are agreeing with some of his ideas!
Now in terms of Vice Presidents, I'd say that Palin is just a ridiculous choice, and a slap in the face to the women of America. Especially if McCain really believes that he can get Clinton supporters just because she is a woman. I mean please, thanks for that one McCain. But after seeing Palin's preformance during the Vice Presidential debat I was very impressed and I think that within the next 8 years or so she will become a big player in politcs, she is smart even though I don't agree with her stance on most issues, I still think that with some expierence she could do this country some good. But as for right now she is most definetly NOT prepared enough to run this country. No way, no how. I do however think that even if McCain loses that won't be the last of her. On to Biden, he is fantastic! I think he was a very intelligent choice on Obama's part. Biden has a ton of expierence in the government and I think that will help Obama's case as far as those thinking he isn't expierenced enough to run the country.

I really wish I could vote! I think Obama and Biden are going to do wonders and fix some many things! I am very excited and intrigued to see what happens!!

“I would rather say something inaccurate than tell a lie, because I would rather be honest than clever” is a direct quite from Thomas More’s Utopia, widely accepted as one of the most influential books in the formation of modern Western politics. The basis for this in todays political sphere is diminishing as facts are quickly becoming a rare commodity. Today we are facing the worst economic disaster since the Great Depression, a war on two fronts and a growing dependence on foreign fuels. I sit here writing this paper trying to make the conscious argument to at least question, Voltaire once said, “judge a man by his questions rather then by his answers.” During the the last eight years of disaster we have had a Republican President and if that is not enough of a reason to ask “why” to a man running in the same political party, hopefully the rest of my argument will be. Several key factors are the running points in this election such as energy independence, age of our candidates and health records, judges they would appoint to the Supreme Court, and regulation of key American interests at home and abroad. Below I will justify beyond a reasonable doubt that Senator Obama is ready to be the next President of the United States.

This year, 2008, is wrapping up to look like 1992 but with a different bow on top. “It’s the economy, stupid!” could be used without a second thought, a phrase used by Bill Clinton while running against incumbent President George HW Bush. Let’s focus on tax’s alone, in 2002 the 107th republican majority congress and Mr. Bush passed massive tax-breaks for the richest 1% of Americans. The justification for such actions is trickle down economics in which the rich hire more employee’s, but this has never worked in practice; the closest we as a nation ever got to “trickle down economics” was under President Reagan, which resulted in a near stock market crash in 1989. Senator McCain fails to understand the facts laid before us that caused the current situation, deregulation. As a strong Republican fundamentalist he has voted numerous times on the senate floor to support the lack of government intervention in capitalist economics, something we saw in 1929 which led to the crash of the stock market. Ironicly, the political party who fixed that crisis was the Democrats.

Using alternative energy’s is not just about the environment but a matter of nation security. We are borrowing money from China to buy oil from Saudi Arabia and other former OPEC member nations. We have the technologies, we have the workforce, yet we lack a willingness on behalf of a leader. Senator McCain wants to drill at home, but he forgets a key factor about the international capitalist market we have helped create. Just because we drill oil here, does not mean companies such as Exxon Mobile or BP will sell it in the United States. Plus, any republican who’s response to that argument is strict government laws, well that my friends is the definition of hypocrisy. If anything, economists from MSNBC’s political unit predict the price of crude oil to rise as traditional supply and demand rules do not apply to oil in the 21st century due to market manipulation beyond our control. Senator Obama has supported alternative energy’s throughout his entire time as a Senator and state Senator, as John McCain has voted numerous times to give tax breaks to big oil companies.

We are in theory the worlds last great democracy, the eyes of everyone are always on the United States. The constitution and all amendments allow the people of the United States certain inalienable rights core to the formation and evolution of this great nation. If we fail to uphold landmark decisions by the Supreme Court we would be failing everyone who was ever told they could not do something or achieve a goal.. Brown v. Board of Education, Row. v. Wade, Bush v. Gore, are all key examples of the formation of this nation and the principles it stands for. Unfortunately, Presidents get to choose Supreme Court justices that are later confirmed by the Senate... which without a doubt has always been politicized. It is key to the continuation of our nation to appoint fair and balanced Judge’s that will not see color, will not see party, but see everyone as equal. It is obvious that some political parties lean to an extremist view, such as the collision of Republicanism and Christianity. Undeniably, the republican party and thus its candidates for President will lean toward their base, choosing ultra conservative judges that will strip the minority of their rights and ignore the Constitution. Senator McCain has stated time and time again that we will appoint more Roberts and Scalia’s to the court we hold so dear. Now Senator Obama may be so radical to the left to counter this process that it is a reason in-itself to not vote for him, but beyond a reasonable doubt you must conclude that having the choice to act on your own wishes should always prevail over mixture of Church and State or violation of our Constitution. If you are so patriotic as republicans like to claim, actually understand the equal protection clause of the Constitution, loud and clear.

Taking all these points into consideration, I believe the choice is clear. Regardless of what you think of either candidates, hate them but accept the fact they are choosing to label themselves under one of two political parties. Former President Truman was once asked if he voted for the man or the party, responded, “I vote for the best man, for he is a democrat.”

First of all I'd like to say that I strongly believe BOTH candidates are well suited for presidency, and actually care about our nation. (Unlike some people have said) Because if they did not care they would not be running. I think that Obama definitely has an advantage being young and fresh. However, this serves as a disadvantage because being young comes with lack of experience, which is definitely true in Senator Obama’s case. I agree with many of Senator McCain’s views on issues like the Iraq war. I disagree with many of Senator Obama’s views on things like immigration and putting up a wall on the Mexican-U.S. border. I think that people’s argument that McCain is going to die is ridiculous. Just because he’s older than Obama doesn’t mean he’s on the brink of death. If he were to die in office, he would be replaced with Sarah Palin, which I think would be good. I think Sarah Palin is a great public speaker, relatable, and strong. She is a smart choice for vice president because she gives McCain an edge that he greatly needed. I believe she could be very capable. If she were to have time in the vice president position she could learn a great deal that could make her very competitive in the race for presidency in future terms. Another point that nobody has brought up was the issue with Obama’s pastor. I found that whole situation a little unnerving and strange. So in the end if I were able to vote it would be for McCain. I found the information that I formed my opinion on from the Easy Voter Guide and both McCain and Obama’s websites.

Politics? Why I love it! I enjoy watching debates and seeing two very different perspectives on how world issues are viewed. However at the end of the day I am continuously thinking about who I would vote for if I could. I have made my decision and I would vote for Barack Obama. Obama has given the people an outline of what he would do if he was to be in office. I do agree with almost everything that he is implying. With the issue in Iraq I do not think we should even go to Afghanistan because I believe that it may cause more problems whether or not we should have been there in the first place. I think getting our troops out of Iraq is the best solution because you wont have anymore deaths or families worrying to death about their loved ones that are risking their life everyday for our country. Mc Cain however opposes this idea and thinks that troops should stay there until Iraq is a democratic state.
Immigration is a big issue in the U.S and Senator Obama believes in trying to alleviate as much of it as possible while trying to make work with Mexico so the problem can possibly be decreased. However, Mc Cain holds our government responsible for not having borders up and that is the major cause of illegal immigration.
In regards to our economy Obama wants to make a secure nation by having an energy independent country, help to ensure our middle class is growing, education, and research and development. He wants to increase the export of American goods so that way he will be able to benefit American workers and to have a continuous flow of money coming in so we do not have to have another financial crisis. Although Mc Cain shows a great deal of concern for our economy he doesn’t exactly say in his debates on what he would do.
I remember watching the first debate and I was so excited to come home and had my dinner ready for me on the couch so I wouldn’t be bothered while viewing it. After the debate was over I remember calling my mom and telling her all about it. I truly believe that Obama truly wants to help our country to make it better and fix the current problems that we have. Mc Cain on the other hand, I believe that he is mainly concerned with the veterans and does not have a sturdy ground on where he stands with our issues. Although he has had more experience than Obama he does not really understand on what being a president may be? I am not sure I can even answer that to myself. Obama may not be as experienced but I think he can take on the job at governing this country. I know that he will correct dilemmas and do whatever it takes to make the people happy because that is his main concern and to make our country a well rounded one. I think that he did make a wise decision when he picked Biden to be his vice president because he does have a great deal of experience and is very educated with politics and what needs to be done. I can literally talk about politics for hours with anyone and argue my opinion all the way. If I could vote in this election I would and I would vote for Obama because he seems to have more of a realistic idea on what he wants to do with certain issues and where he stands.

I would like to ask all of you what experience McCain really has. Although, Obama has not been in office as much as I would have hoped, McCain has been in the senate for over 20 years. But, he has done very little to help support our economy except derugalate and deregulate repeatedly. Please comment this by telling me what experience McCain really has, because I am very annoyed by people saying he has so much experience. And, with the war, how can you say he has military experience when we have had such a poorly fought war with poor reasons for invasion. There were few effective tactics in Iraq used, only shoot and kill the enemy as in Vietnam, which turned out to be a fiasco.

I admit I don't know much about either candidate than what I sometimes see on The Colbert Report. But I do know that McCain now is being very negative. Almost too so. He keeps on criticizing Obama about not funding the troops, but even I know he didn't do that because it didn't have a timeline. I do like how Obama is going to cut taxes because I work and the less taxes the better. Also, I know that Obama is going to focus a lot on the middle class, but I'm not sure where McCain stands. How much could he do for veterans? I also don't know why McCain refuses to meet with Spain. Another big issue is that I do think we should start pulling out of Iraq like Obama wants to. McCain wants to stay in there for some reason. He says we have to defeat the terrorists but they aren't in Iraq so I don't know what he plans on doing in there. I do agree with several points with Obama, but the main thing is that I don't like McCain.

Like most people here I personally do not know much about politics. My pick would be based on what I have heard in the media, so I do not know how reliable that is. From the debates and other things I have seen Obama looks like the better choice and many others would probably agree with me. But most of my opinion is based solely on looks. From what I have seen Obama has been calm and collective throughout the debates and that is an important quality for a president to have. That being said I only know a couple, if any, of their policies, so my pick would basically be a guess. Both candidates have their good and bad points but at this point I feel like McCain’s bad outweigh his good. I also feel like the jokes that have been made at the expense of McCain and Palin have swayed my opinion. At this point in the election, the person winning in the polls has never lost. That being said, as terrible as it sounds, I just can’t see the people in some areas of this country voting for a black man. The fact that race could be a deciding factor to some people is ridiculous, and I really do thing it could greatly affect the outcome of this race.
If I wasn’t clear at the beginning, I would vote for Obama……I’m just not completely sure why

Well I'm just like most everyone who has said they weren't really interested on the whole politics category before this election but I am 100% for Obama. He stands for change in America. He's like a sign of hope that our government isn't totally screwed up. First of all Obama wants to end the war. Over 1,000 American troops have died and there is no need for any more to be added to the list. Obama will try his best to bring America together and include us with making some decisions regarding the foreign policy by having town hall meetings. Obama is definitely a better candidate. He is young and really wants to help rebuild this torn world. He wants to rebuild relationships with Latin America and the Caribbean that Bush has destroyed. He wants to expand Americans knowledge on Africa . He also wants to better our relations with Israel. I really hope Obama wins this election.

Honestly, I dislike politics with a passion. I don’t follow along and I don’t like I will till I do get to vote. So as of this moment I pick neither. I don’t believe is either candidates because they do not present well thought out plans for the crisis’s in our country going on today. Like how would they fix the stock market problem before we plumage into yet another great depression that could last for years, or how do they intend to bring down oil prices, and all the war they are putting us through, do they have the well thought out plans that we need to survive as a nation? And then there are the other issues. Like how McCain is practically seventy years old and good very much just die while in office, then what?? And how about Obama, he does not have the necessary experiences to run a whole country. So my answer would be neither of these candidates are ready to run a country.

Tori Voges said...

I was never one to follow politics very well, and even in this case of who should become our nations next president my practices have not changed. I do not have enough information to make a solid opinion on this topic, but from what i do know, i believe that both candidates have strong points and weak points.

The only thing i really know about Obama is that he is going to raise taxes in order to provide health care for the less fortunate, i am completely against this, i do not believe that the people who wake up every morning and go work their butts off everyday in order to provide their families a good life should be responsible to pay for other peoples health care, because in my opinion those other people are just as capable of going and finding a job, no matter what that job be. I believe that the less fortunate people in the world got in the position of being less fortunate from being lazy. They started out the same way we all did, and have equal opportunity to become successful in life as the rest of public school students do. I do not know if this is true, but i have heard that Obama wants to pull out of the war. Now if this is the case i am also against this too. Do not get me wrong i do not believe that we should have gone to war in the first place...but whether we should have or we should not have is irrelevant because we did, and what is done is done there is no point on dwelling on the past. We are still in Iraq in order to get the al qaeda out of government interference (at least this is my understanding of why we are still there). I think if we pull out now all our hard work would have been pointless because they would just come right back into Iraq, making everything we have fought for in the past 5 years a waste of time and money. It would also mean that all the soldiers who have died so far would have lost their lives for nothing.

The only thing that i have heard about McCain is that he is old, that he wants to stay in Iraq until we have succeeded in terminating the al qaeda from Iraq, and that voting for him means not paying as many taxes. The down side of McCain in my opinion is that he comes off to me as boring and not really sure of how he is going to help our nation. But like i said i really do not know much about either candidate.

I think that people are focusing on McCain's age way too much because on the contrary of his age...if Obama won, he would be the first black president to run our country and therefore is just as likely to be assassinated as McCain is to die of old age. i believe that both have an equal likely hood of dying while in office.

All in all i really have no idea who i choose to become our nations next president because i think both candidates lack a lot of qualities needed.

I believe that physical characteristics will play a big role in this election. Senator Obama is a much taller man than Senator McCain, which may give him the appearance as a stronger leader. Senator Obama also has a much stronger speaking voice. I believe that Senator Obama has better economic policies then Senator McCain, and my good friend Jim the carpenter agrees with me. Even though Jim the carpenter is a mere three and a half inches tall and lives in a shoe box under my bed, he is a credible source. Jim the carpenter believes in Senator Obama so much that he has offered him his magic chisel to chip away at government spending.

In the question of Obama vs. McCain, I fully support Obama for President of the United States of America. There are many reasons why I feel this way. One is my dad. My dad plays a huge role in my life, I look up to him, he's my inspiration and my role model. Along with being a great guy he is a die hard democrat. As long as I can remember, on debate and election nights my dad and I have sat side by side rooting on our democratic nominee. That was back in 3rd grade, where I cared little or almost nothing about the issues, because whoever my dad wanted was who I wanted. So being raised in a democratic household puts me at a bias. These past pretty much six years, I've listened to my dad go on and on about how Bush is distorting the Constitution, how he has created the mess that America is in now, and that he is the evil doer that has us in a war that the American people didn't want to be in in the first place. And for the past five years I've listened to my dad. But this year is different, I'm now very well rounded in politics (with some help from Aaron :)) and I'm making decisions based on my own ideals. I've learned that yes, Bush has got us into some deep ditches but the blame also falls on Congress for passing his ridiculous bills.
Anywho, this year is about change, something America desperately needs. Obama is that change. McCain can say all he wants that he is not George Bush and he's right because the real George Bush is probably chilling at one of McCain's multiple houses. But McCain would and will be a continuation of the way Bush runs this country and his administration. To quote Al Gore "I believe in recycling, but that's ridiculous." Which leads me to the second reason I support Obama. The Issues. And just to sound cliche; Obama cares about Mainstreet instead of just Wallstreet. Obama is all for the middle class, which directly includes my family. His tax plan about offering middle class families a lower tax rate is awesome opposed to McCains plan, which is to keep with the Bush tax cuts. I also fully 110% support pro-choice on the abortion issue, which McCain is not. Also I'm a strong advocate for equal rights for all, including gay marriages; as is Obama. He also is prepared to cut down 80% in US greenhouse gasses, where as McCain is more focused on other things. The last issue that I'm passionate about is the Iraq war. Obama wants and will set a timeline on when to withdraw troops and with McCain there is no end in sight.
The third reason why Obama should be president is Joe Biden. Obama and Biden make such a great team, their knowlage put together is outstanding. In the off chance that Obama gets assasinated, I would feel very safe with Biden as our new President. Unlike where if McCain was to die of old age, I would feel very uncomfortable letting Palin take the reigns.
I do believe that McCain is a very respectable man for his duties in Vietnam and his bravery to "cross party lines". I also respect Palin for putting up with the media and the jokes made on her family along with her work as governor of Alaska. But no, neither of them are ready or should ever be put in charge of the United States.
In conclusion, this one's for that one '08!
(aka: I'm for Barak Obama '08)

An interesting fact about the Mcain Palin ticket is that. Sarah Palin has recently spent over 150,000 dollars of campaign money on WARDROBE?! That is nearly 60% more than she made in a year working as governor of alaska. After the media picking up on this little campaign expenditure the Mcain camp quickly stated that all wardrobe was to be given to charities. This just seems so false and un caring. Barack Obama is not a liar it is affirmed that he tells the truth. John Mcain on the other hand has flip flopped and been caught lying or insulting Senator Obama for no reason.

I personally don't have an opinion. I have payed no attention at all to anything going on in this years presidential election. Although many people might think that is not the smartest thing to do, I can't vote, therefore, I don't see how my opinion makes a difference right now. When I'm old enough to vote, I will pay attention and have an opinion because I have a chance to make a difference.
From what I've heard about each candidate from people around school, many people have sided with Obama. I however, don't feel that I am educated enough on either McCain or Obama's beliefs to make a decision. I also find that Obama has become a trend. I don't remember any time where soo many underage people have become so involved in a presidential election. I feel like if anyone were to side with McCain, they would be too scared to voice their opinion as much as people who sided with Obama do because since there are way more people sided with Obama, they will feel over powered.
